IT'S
ONLY RECENTLY BY SELLING THROUGH THE INTERNET THAT THE DIFFICULTY OF
SELLING BY THE POUND HAS BECOME AN ISSUE. THE REASON IS HOW INTERNET
STORES ARE SET UP TO RECEIVE YOUR ORDERS, VALIDATE YOUR CARD,
AUTOMATICALLY CHARGE YOUR CARD, PACK AND SHIP YOUR ORDER. FOR SECURITY
REASONS, THE CREDIT CARD HAS TO BE VALIDATED BEFORE
PACKING TO NOT WASTE TIME.
THE PROBLEM IS HOW MUCH DOES
YOUR ORDER ACTUALLY WEIGH? SO HOW DO WE CHARGE YOU THE CORRECT TRUE
WEIGHT?
OUR COMPTROLLER CAME UP WITH THE ANSWER. USE A CHARGE BACK. A LITTLE EXTRA WORK BUT IT SOLVES THE PROBLEM.
Here
is how it works. We use our computer records from thousands of
shipments to arrive at a very accurate average weight for the size and number of
lobsters and the total weight of your order for the total cost that is advertized.
(for exact details see Lobster size per carton).
This is the total price you see when your order appears on the shopping cart
page. Is it the actual price and weight that you will be charged? It will be
close BUT possibly not exactly the final weight. It is to give you a very
accurate idea of the cost of your shipment and the true price per pound delivered by knowing the expected weight. After packing and weighing your individual order,
a correction will be applied to your card to match your packing slip. You get charged for the weight
you receive, no more or less, the exact weight.
When you buy lobsters by the piece, the total weight could vary by up to 20%. The difference comes from how lobsters are sorted by size by guessing not weighing. Weighing each lobster while sorting through 20,000 incoming lobsters is impractical. But after packing sorted lobsters, your carton of lobsters slides across an automated scale that removes the weight of the carton and arrives at the total weight of the live lobsters. This is the weight you are charged. Makes you wonder why they don't sell eggs by the pound.
