| Homarus Americanus -The Maine Lobster |
The longest on going stupidity is the following myth. The one about the proper way
to kill a lobster before cooking so that they feel no pain is the best one.
One inventor came up with a $1,400 lobster electric chair. ( What happens if an appeal is filed?). The known fact is lobsters don't feel pain at all because they don't have a central brain. At least they act like they don't in
the wild. They are very ornery and procrustean ( a big word that
means they like to tear each other apart with ruthless disregard of the
situation). In fact they do it continuously for no apparent reason
other than the attacked lobster might be too close to the other Maine
lobsters home turf. Being the neighborhood bully pays off. Hierarchy
plays an important role in who gets it on with the ladies during
molting & mating season. Any other time the females are fair game
too. They rip each other apart and the winner usually enjoys the Maine
lobster plate special of the day. They are just a bunch of bullying
cannibals; always fighting over the ladies.
